Baseball Glove Thin Palm Laces

from $4.25

These thin palm laces are cut and skived specifically for the palm area of baseball and softball gloves.

Unlike standard-length laces, these are cut shorter for palm use and skived down thinner to allow smooth threading through tight palm channels where bulkier leather can cause resistance or distortion.

John Golomb, The Original Glove Doctor, has restored over 70,000 gloves over four decades. These are the same palm laces we use in our shop when control, flexibility, and clean installation matter most.

Designed for both baseball and softball gloves — palm construction, not glove type, determines the lace.

  • The palm is one of the most sensitive and high-contact areas of a glove. Using a standard lace in this area can work, but it often adds unnecessary bulk and stiffness.

Palm laces are different by design.

    These laces are:

    • Skived thinner to reduce thickness inside the glove

    • More flexible, allowing the palm to move naturally

    • Cleaner laying, helping the glove close and break in properly

    • More comfortable, especially for players who value feel and responsiveness

For gloves with tight palm channels or for restorations where feel matters, a dedicated palm lace is the preferred choice.

  • Yes — a standard glove lace can be used in the palm if needed.

However, palm laces are specifically cut and skived to do this job better. They reduce bulk, sit flatter against the leather, and help preserve the glove’s original performance characteristics. For higher-end gloves, restorations, or players sensitive to feel, palm laces are strongly recommended.

  • To properly lace an entire glove, palm laces are typically used alongside other specialized laces, depending on the glove design:

    • Finger Hole Laces

    • Small Finger Hole & Thumb Loops – for tighter bends and reinforced stress points

    • Standard Glove Laces – for webs, heels, and finger tops

GOLOMB offers all of these components so you can build a complete, correctly matched lace set for your glove.

  • If you’re relacing more than just the palm, consider one of our Glove Lace Kits which include the correct mix of laces for a full job.

FAQ

  • Most standard fielder's gloves need 2 laces at 3/16" (palm, heel, fingers) and 2 laces at 1/4" (web, finger tops). Catcher's mitts and first baseman's gloves typically need 7+ laces. If you're not sure, send us a photo of your glove and we'll tell you exactly what you need.

Prefer a no-guesswork option? We offer glove-specific lace kits and bulk sets with the exact laces needed for common glove models.
